The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has established a permanent hub for the National Security Guard (NSG) in Jammu to ensure quick response to any major terror attack in the Jammu region.
Sources said the NSG’s special unit is now permanently stationed in Jammu City.
The creation of this NSG hub comes after a series of attacks targeting security forces in various districts of the Jammu region.
While sources declined to disclose the exact number of NSG personnel for operational security reasons, they said the force is adequately sized to address any terror threat.
“Previously, if an NSG intervention was needed to neutralize terrorists, commandos had to be airlifted from New Delhi or Chandigarh, which was time-consuming. Now, with the NSG stationed in the city, a rapid response is assured,” they said.
There have been a series of terror attacks this year targeting security forces in Kathua, Udhampur, Kishtwar, Doda, Jammu, Reasi, Rajouri and Poonch districts in which a number of security men have been killed. Many terrorists were also killed in the encounters.
Last month, three Pakistani terrorists were killed in Khour sector of Akhnoor in Jammu district.
They had reportedly infiltrated from the Line of Control (LoC) to cause a major terror attack in the City but were killed in the army operation.
