
A one Day Sensitization Workshop for farmers and field functionaries on the cultivation of Pulses and Oil Seeds under National Food Security Mission (NFSM) was organized today by Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers welfare, Jammu here at Kissan Kendra, Talab Tillo u.
Additional Commissioner (Crops), Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers Welfare, Government of India(GOI), Dr. A. P. Singh and Director AP & FW, Jammu K. K. Sharma lit the ceremonial Lamp on the occasion to mark the inauguration of the workshop.
Joint Director (Extension), Subash Chander Sharma in his welcome address presented the overall view on the working of the department.
Director Agriculture Kashmir, Iqbal Choudhary, Director Department of Pluses Development, Bhopal, Director Department Oilseeds Development Hyderabad, JD, DSO, Lacknow, A. L. Waghmare, DMD, Jaipur, Dr. ram Naryan Ahirwar were connected through virtual mode.
The Director, in his address, outlined that objective of this workshop is to promote the strategies for enhancing production / Productivity of the crops development programme under the NFSM scheme and to ensure efficient use of resources by farmers besides shift from Production Centric to Income Centric approach for stabilising farmer income.
He said that the focus of the department is on area expansion under Pulses and Oil Seeds by promoting cultivation of pure crops as well as intercropping with other major crops. Director also presented the overall status of NFSM in Jammu division through power point presentation.
Dr. A. P. Singh stated that the promotion of pulses and oilseed along with focused approach in mission mode is required. He discussed the production and import scenario of pulse and oilseed crops in India and highlighted the broad objectives of the NFSM programme. He stressed on adopting diversification in farming by shifting to oil seeds (Mustard & Toria) and Pulses (Lentil & Rajmash) besides shifting from Non basmati to Basmati Paddy. He further assured that all issues related to the implementation of NFSM scheme in J&K will be considered on priority basis.
Dr. Brij Nandan, Sr. Scientist, PRSS, Samba, SKUAST-Jammu, while conducting technical session, gave a power point presentation on production technologies for enhancing pulse production in Jammu Region. He deliberated on good agricultural practices in oilseed and pulses and climate resilient technologies.
