One dead, three injured as car plunges into gorge near Tangdhar

Army, locals lead swift rescue

In a heart-wrenching accident near Tangdhar, a civilian Honda Jazz (Registration No. CH 01 BS 3356) carrying four family members — three men and one woman — plunged into a deep gorge on Saturday afternoon.
Local civilians and Indian Army personnel immediately launched a rescue operation and shifted the victims to the nearest Army medical post at Baraf around 3:00 PM. Unfortunately, Rafiq Ahmed, a medical assistant, succumbed to his injuries at the site.
Mohammad Ashraf sustained multiple injuries and was evacuated to Kupwara by a civil ambulance at 4:00 PM. Parveena Begam, wife of the deceased, and Shahid Turuk, his son, received first aid at the Army medical post and were shifted to Kupwara in an Army ambulance along with a medical officer at 4:10 PM for further treatment.
The swift and coordinated efforts by local residents and the Indian Army have been widely appreciated by the local authorities.
While speaking with Our Correspondent BMO Karnah Dr. Arif Khawaja confirmed the fatality and said the injured are undergoing treatment at Kupwara Hospital.
Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the tragic accident.
