No sovereign nation can endure endless provocations especially when civilians and tourists are targeted to disrupt peace and economic development
The recent terror attack targeting innocent tourists in Pahalgam has once again exposed Pakistan’s undeniable link with terrorism in Kashmir. This tragic incident is not an isolated event. It reflects a deep-rooted problem that has plagued South Asia for decades. Pakistan’s role as a sponsor and supporter of terrorism has not only endangered its neighbours especially India but has also turned into a self-consuming fire that now burns its own land and people.
Blaming Pakistan as a terror sponsoring country is not a superficial accusation. It stems from decades of evidence and repeated betrayals. After partition Pakistan made Kashmir the centrepiece of its foreign policy. Having failed to defeat India militarily in 1947 1965 and 1971 Pakistan adopted a sinister strategy. It sought to bleed India through a thousand cuts by promoting terrorism under the guise of freedom struggles. The insurgencies in Punjab during the 1980s under the Khalistan movement and later the militancy in Kashmir in the 1990s bore the unmistakable fingerprints of Pakistani intelligence agencies. As noted by Mr Chranjeet Singh in his thesis at Simon Fraser University Pakistan’s plan was to first destabilize Punjab and then ignite unrest in Kashmir. The objective was not the welfare of any people but the satisfaction of a larger geopolitical vendetta against India.
The attack in Pahalgam is yet another grim reminder that Pakistan’s tactics remain unchanged. Rather than focusing on rebuilding its battered economy and fractured political system Pakistan continues to invest energy and resources into anti India activities. Intelligence sources and security analysts have traced the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack back to groups operating from Pakistan and Pakistan Occupied Kashmir. Statements emerging from Pakistani leaders and militant groups in the aftermath of the attack glorified the violence and revealed an appalling disregard for human lives and international norms.
Ironically the monster that Pakistan once nurtured to harm others now consumes its own children. The fire Pakistan set to burn India now engulfs its own cities streets and homes. The so called strategic assets have turned into existential threats. Terrorism related incidents within Pakistan have surged dramatically. In 2021 alone attacks rose by over fifty percent leading to hundreds of deaths and injuries. Even poets artists and intellectuals in Pakistan speak of a nation torn apart from within. The country’s streets now echo with bomb blasts and the wails of innocent citizens. Its own citizens now live under the constant shadow of fear it once tried to impose on others.
The situation is further compounded by Pakistan’s economic collapse and political disarray. Inflation soars debt deepens political chaos prevails and international credibility crumbles. Without political stability there can be no economic recovery. The world watches as Pakistan teeters on the edge of collapse. Major powers and international financial institutions now hesitate to offer unconditional support. Jessica Brody’s words ring true here Karma comes after everyone eventually. What goes around comes around. Pakistan’s current plight is a direct consequence of the hatred violence and deceit it sowed for more than seventy years.
The relationship between India and Pakistan has never been easy but continued terror attacks have now pushed it dangerously close to a war like situation. Every new attack widens the gulf of mistrust. India has exercised strategic patience for decades but the patience is wearing thin. No sovereign nation can endure endless provocations especially when civilians and tourists are targeted to disrupt peace and economic development.
India must now act with both wisdom and resolve. It must continue to expose Pakistan’s terror links at every international platform including the United Nations FATF and G20 to ensure that diplomatic pressure mounts steadily. At the same time India must fortify its internal security and neutralize threats before they materialize. It should strengthen ties with neighbouring countries like Afghanistan Iran and Bangladesh to isolate Pakistan regionally. Within Kashmir India must persist in strengthening democratic institutions empowering local voices and building an environment where terrorism finds no support or sympathy.
As for Pakistan there is still a narrow window left to change course. The country must immediately dismantle its terror infrastructure and abandon the use of terrorism as an instrument of state policy. It must focus instead on rebuilding its shattered economy restoring its political system and regaining international trust. Hatred deceit and proxy wars have brought only devastation. The future demands a sincere shift toward peace reform and economic revival. Without these Pakistan faces an inevitable slide into complete collapse.
History has already judged Pakistan’s choices harshly. It is now for Pakistan to decide whether it will continue to walk the path of destruction or muster the courage to save itself from ruin.
