Parents urge for immediate evacuation of J&K students studying in Iran

June 16, 2025 | Ayaan Wani

As Israeli and Iranian military confrontation is escalating, the parents of Jammu and Kashmir students studying in Iran urged the Government of India for their immediate safe evacuation.
Shabir Ahmed, father of a student studying in Iran, said they are worried about the safety of their wards in Iran.
“Our anxiety is increasing with each Israeli bombing on infrastructure in Iran. As there are chances of an outbreak of full blown war between Iran and Israel, we urge the government to evacuate our wards studying in Iran safely back home,” he said.
About 1300 students from J&K are studying in different educational institutions in Iran.
A group of distressed parents also gathered at Press Colony in Srinagar today voicing grave concerns over the safety of their children studying in Iran.
“Our children are living under constant fear due to the volatile situation in Iran. Communication is irregular, and we are extremely worried. The government must act now before the situation worsens,” said one of the parents at the protest site,” said the group of parents.
They urged authorities to establish communication channels and provide timely updates regarding any evacuation plans.
The parents called upon the Indian Embassy in Tehran to facilitate logistical support and coordinate safe return of the J&K students.
Meanwhile, in a letter to S Jaishankar, Minister for External Affairs, the parents expressed deep concern over the safety of their children.
They noted that the students had already registered with the Indian Embassy in Iran and followed all official guidelines issued by the Ministry of External Affairs.
Citing the panic and trauma caused by recent blasts, the parents requested that the Government act swiftly on humanitarian grounds to ensure the safe return of their children. They also recalled similar evacuation efforts carried out by the Indian Government during the Ukraine conflict, which were widely praised by the public.
“We sincerely hope the Government will take urgent and concrete action before the situation worsens,” the parents said.
