George Orwell’s novel “Animal Farm’ has allegorized the moral degradation in single sentence ‘ All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others’ that is figuratively expressive of the theme of political and moral corruption prevalent in the animal Farm that metaphorically represents every human society. And it won’t be inapt to make par excellence the landscape of Kashmir that has been suffering from the storm of moral and ethical degradation and its aftermath. When a society is indulged in immoralist, corruption, fraud, cheating, and disloyalty like discourse the results are certain come in a negative intensity
In the recent past various types of murders have been news reported from various corners of Kashmir valley. It seems as if a storm of moral degradation and psychological frustration has swept the surface of Kashmiri landscape that one upon a time used to be an example of moralism, hospitality and humanity. Moral values were given prime importance and material aspects were put at the second priority. After pondering over the situation I feel that I am lost in the wilderness of the wild valley- Kashmir. I would logically draw an analogy between the John Milton’s magnum opus-Paradise Lost; an epic that recounts the fall of angels and the expulsion of Adam and Eve from the paradise. The allegorical strain highlighted in the epic is like Satan fell on account of his pride and arrogance while as Adam and Eve were expelled on account of their violation of divine commandments. Although, the epic shows a renaissance characteristic of revolt and reform, but Biblical theme is also a prominent one that has captured the attention of critics worldwide. Theologians valued it as a Christian allegory and moral philosophers have weighed it on the fulcrum of corruption and degradation. As it has rightly been said by a critic: It is women’s woe that brought men to hell.
Recent survey has revealed that hundreds of murders have taken place inside valley Kashmir since March 2024. ETV- 13 October 2024 report reads that in a shocking turn of events, a man killed his own cousin after a petty dispute over vehicle parking in Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, police said. The shocking killing came to light in Parimpora on the outskirts of Srinagar city. The accused has been identified as Zareef Ahmed Mir, son of Abdul Raheem Mir, a local from Parimpora, who stabbed the victim identified as Amir Razak Mir, son of Abdul Razak Mir, also from Parimpora.
A son has allegedly killed his mother in Sopore area in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district, reports and officials said. Reports said that a youth strangulated to death his mother in Dangarpora village in Sopore area on intervening Wednesday and Thursday night. Confirming the unfortunate incident, a senior police officer said that they have launched a large-scale manhunt to nab the accused.“We are looking into all possible angles regarding the incident”, the officer said adding, “Once any further details are available, same will be shared accordingly.” (GNS)
.Mother of a 4-year-old daughter and the second wife of a daily wage laborer, Khan suspected Shabnum of having an extramarital affair with a man hailing from the same village. “The couple had a strained relationship for many years. They had even tried mediation last year but it could do little to iron out the differences. Our investigation could not substantiate the allegations of her husband and instead, we found him to be involved in an extramarital affair,” said Station House Officer Aishmuqam Police Station Syed Showket Bukhari, who utilized in this case his previous investigative skills in cracking a similar blind murder case of Srinagar’s Nowgam in 2018.
Recently a woman was reported to have been killed by her husband in Haptnard-Kokernag of District: Anantnag (South- Kashmir) owing to his extramarital affairs that came to the limelight after being captured by the media network in South-Kashmir.
A report of ETV reads as: For Khans, January 2025 would have been a time to welcome the arrival of a new family member. But it turned out to be a period of mourning for the remote Hapatnar village in south Kashmir after J&K Police unveiled the gruesome murder of a 30-year-old woman, who was six months pregnant at the time of her death on October 4.ETV Bharat learnt from senior police officials privy to the investigation that the deceased Shabnum Akhter was allegedly strangled to death by her husband Imran Khan by tying a rope around her neck inside their home in the idyllic village 81 kilometers away from Srinagar.
Murders, according to psychoanalytical perspective, are the result of sexual envy that is often observed in the behavior of male and female, materialistic/ property concern, gaining power in an undue way and removing an obstacle from the way or eradicating any proof with regard to out faults or crimes that are yet to get leak out. In Shakespeare’s plays like Hamlet, Othello and Macbeth the theme of causalities has been explained in the backdrop of psycho-sexual clash between the characters like, in Hamlet, Claudius plots against the King Hamlet only with the intention to seize the throne. In Othello, sexual jealousy is at work as Othello is misguided by his hasty nature and kills his beloved wife Desdemona only due to his suspicions that she is affairs with Cassio as plotted by Iago-the antagonist. Macbeth, murders King Duncan in a hasty way as misguided by his wife –Lady Macbeth to attain the throne. And ultimately, the play ends tragically with the end of both Macbeth and his wife.
Sophocles’ play- Oedipus Rex- the protagonist commits fratricide unknowingly and marries his mother that brings plague to the nation , but in our Kashmir , the characters commit all the sins knowingly and with a full preparation and it is matter of introspections that how the wrath of God might fall upon the people.
So the subject of the essay is justified in the sense that Kashmir has been facing a storm of parricides that is indicative of something worst in the store for the whole nations. Kashmir was known as the abode of peace and tranquility full of love, compassion, helpfulness and all that. But the materialistic filth has entered the mind and soul of the people in such a way that there is nothing more valued than money. The only reason being that the people of the land, that was once called a paradise on the earth, have gone far from the religion, belief and moralism. The reason seems to have gone pasturing and heart devoid of any feeling like a stone. So the time is not far when we all shall face a storm that would spare none as it happened to Loss Angels where even the angels would fear to tread when it took everything in the grip.
