Youth now talk of jobs instead of violence and guns
The Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Sunday said that peace, progress, prosperity and people first has been the motto of his administration in last five years.
Sinha took over as second Lt Governor on J&K UT on August 7, 2020 and would be completing five years in office on August 7, 2025.
“When I came here, I realised two things.. There should be complete writ of Indian authority in J&K and J&K should be fully integrated with India. I can say with satisfaction that we have achieved both the targets,” he said.
The LG said confronting terrorism directly, bolstering tourism, supporting victims, and building infrastructure has been the hallmark of the government efforts towards making a prosperous Jammu and Kashmir.
“There was a time when on the behest of the neighbouring country, shutdowns used to be observed in Valley. It is now a history. The stone pelting has ended and it is also a history now. After 32 years, three Muharram processions were peacefully taken out. The cinema halls have opened and educational institutions are functioning normally in J&K like any other part of the country,” he said.
Sinha said people are now enjoying the night life in the Valley. “The confidence of people in the government and governance has increased”.
“I am satisfied that in last five years, J&K’s economy has grown,” he said.
After three decades, the LG Sinha administration has announced compensation and jobs to the terror victims.
“The government will provide every possible help and assistance in terms of prompt compensation, secure government jobs, and entrepreneurial training to the terror victims,” Sinha said.
He affirmed that their grief would be met with tangible support, not rhetoric.
Recalling the April 22 terror attack at Baisaran in which 26 lives were lost, Sinha asserted that the government has a zero tolerance policy toward terrorism.
The LG emphasized that Operation Sindoor targeted terror camps and leadership sending a strong message that the region would not be held hostage by fear.
“Security has been strictly reinforced at all tourist hotspots,” he said adding “This is the first time in decades that people of Kashmir have stood up united against Pakistan sponsored terrorism.”
Referring to the ongoing Amarnath yatra, Sinha said despite initial fears, the Amarnath Yatra recorded record numbers this year.
He credited resilient local tourism operators and strengthened security, underscoring that economic continuity was vital to both livelihoods and regional morale.
Sinha J&K Reorganisation Act has been framed by the parliament and it has defined the powers of everybody.
On his relations with CM, he said, “I have cordial relation with him”.
“We talk on majority of issues in cordial relation.”
He said youth in Kashmir now talks of jobs and employment instead of guns and violence.
On elected government led by Omar Abdullah passing a resolution in Assembly demanding restoration of special status and CM calling for restoration of Article 370, Sinha said, “It is his attitude. The parliament has abrogated Articles 370 and 35A and Supreme Court has endorsed it”.
