Srinagar, Aug 18: Vicky Shaw, Chairman of PHDCCI Kashmir and EC member Mr Shahejehan Khan was invited to an interactive meeting with Shri Rajit Punhani, IAS, Secretary to the Government of India and Chief Executive Officer of the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The meeting was organized by Mr. Khalid Jahangir (JKAS), Commissioner of the Food & Drugs Administration, Jammu & Kashmir, and was also attended by Mr. Devesh Kumar Mahla, IPS, Director of FSSAI Northern Region.
During his interaction, Chairman Vicky Shaw emphasized that PHDCCI stands for both consumer safety and ease of doing business. He welcomed regulatory reforms but stressed that the business community must first be trained on standards with scientific evidence and capacity building, rather than facing punitive measures directly.
Extending support to the views of Commissioner Khalid Jahangir, the Chairman strongly advocated for meeting global standards in restaurants and eateries. He called for clear and trustworthy declarations on menus—clearly specifying what is being served, whether it is frozen or fresh, and the nature of meat (lamb, beef, etc.)—in alignment with FSSAI norms. He noted that such transparency would build consumer trust and consequently boost tourist and local footfall at eating establishments.
Reaffirming PHDCCI's commitment, Mr. Shaw concluded that there must be no compromise on safety, hygiene, trust, and transparent declaration of what is served to the public.
