
Anantnag, August 21: Anantnag Police have executed a warrant under the Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT-NDPS) against an alleged repeat drug offender from Bijbehara.
The warrant was issued by the Divisional Commissioner, Kashmir, against Mohammad Ashraf Ganie, a resident of Waghama Bijbehara.
Following execution of the warrant, Ganie was detained and subsequently lodged in District Jail Bhaderwah under the preventive detention provisions of the PIT-NDPS Act.
Police described him as a “notorious drug offender” and said the action was aimed at preventing his alleged continued involvement in the illicit narcotics trade.
The PIT-NDPS Act provides for preventive detention of individuals considered to be involved in illicit trafficking of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.
Police said the latest action forms part of intensified efforts to curb drug-related activities in Anantnag and prevent repeat offenders from continuing their alleged involvement in the illegal trade.
