Baramulla, Sept 24: Police in north Kashmir's Baramulla on Thursday arrested eight tourist guides for allegedly accosting, harassing and obstructing tourists and passengers in the Tangmarg area of this north Kashmir district, officials said.

The arrests come amid a renewed push by authorities to ensure hassle-free movement of visitors in the tourist circuit leading to the famed Gulmarg resort.
According to officials, the eight guides were found accosting, harassing and obstructing tourists and passengers in Tangmarg, a key transit point en route to Gulmarg.
The arrested persons are being produced before the Judicial Magistrate for further course of legal action, a police spokesperson said.
Police made it clear that harassing, intimidating or unnecessarily approaching tourists will not be tolerated, and strict action will follow against anyone found indulging in such conduct.
The action, officials said, is aimed at ensuring that tourists visiting Tangmarg and Gulmarg can travel and enjoy their visit without harassment, pressure or inconvenience.
Police urged tourists to report any harassment or overcharging immediately, assuring that their safety, dignity and hassle-free movement remain a priority.
Officials said the crackdown would continue in the coming days to discourage such practices in the region's tourist hotspots.
