Kulgam, Mar 27: Police in Kulgam has achieved a significant breakthrough in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking by arresting a drug peddler and recovering a substantial quantity of contraband substance from his possession.
A police party during naka checking at New Colony Sheikhpora, Kurigam, intercepted a suspicious individual carrying a polythene bag. Upon noticing the police presence, he attempted to flee but was swiftly apprehended by the alert naka party. During search, 1.4Kgs of Poppy Straw was recovered from his possession. He has been identified as Rafaqat Ahmad Khan son of Mohd Sadiq Khan resident of New Colony Sheikhpora, Kurigam. He has been arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody.
In this regard, a case FIR No. 52/2026 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station and further investigation has been initiated.
Police remains committed to eradicating the menace of drugs from society and urges the general public to cooperate and share any information related to drug peddling or substance abuse.
