Shopian, Mar 31: As a part of its sustained efforts to eradicate the menace of drugs from society, J&K Police in Shopian arrested a drug peddler and recovered contraband substance from his possession.

Acting on reliable information, a police party from Police Station Shopian intercepted a load carrier bearing registration number JK13D-4373 traveling from Dashipora towards Shopian. During the search, a Heroine-like substance weighing approximately 5.61 grams was recovered from the possession of Umar Aijaz Itoo resident of Narsinghpora Kulgam. He has been arrested and the vehicle used in the commission of the crime has also been seized.
Accordingly, a case FIR No. 43/2026 under relevant sections of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Shopian and further investigation has been initiated to uncover forward and backward linkages and dismantle the wider drug network involved.
J&K Police reiterate its commitment to maintaining a drug-free society and appeals to the general public to cooperate in this noble mission. Citizens are requested to share any information regarding drug abuse or peddling to the nearest police establishment.
