Crackdown Against Drugs
In a sustained, multi-pronged offensive against the drug menace, the Jammu and Kashmir Police have intensified their crackdown across the Valley, targeting narcotics networks through strong legal action, financial disruption, and focused prosecution as part of their 2025 drive.
According to the official data, police registered a total of around 1,000 cases in 2025, reflecting a sharp focus on identifying and dismantling drug trafficking and peddling networks operating in different parts of the Valley.
The data shows that nearly 1,400 individuals involved in drug-related activities were arrested as part of the ongoing drive, with investigations aimed at tracing both supply chains and local distribution links.
Police placed about 170 habitual offenders under preventive detention under the PIT-NDPS Act, the data shows.
The properties worth over ₹70 crore were attached, covering more than 120 movable and immovable assets, while around 40 properties were permanently seized under relevant legal provisions, data stated.
“The approach is aimed not only at arrests but at choking the financial backbone of the drug trade, sending a strong deterrent message to those involved in narcotics trafficking,” said a senior police officer.
He said police are laying special emphasis on expeditious trials through an effective pairvi system.
“Strong investigations have resulted in convictions in several quality cases, with courts awarding sentences up to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with fines running into lakhs of rupees”
