
Srinagar, May 17: In continuation of the sustained drive against the menace of drug abuse and illegal sale of medicines under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, a joint inspection and enforcement drive was conducted today by the Drug Inspector Srinagar and Drug Inspector Budgam in collaboration with Police Station Nowgam.
“During the drive, strict action was taken against medical shops found violating the provisions of the Drugs and Cosmetics Act and related regulations. A total of07 medical shops/pharmacies were sealed or suspended on the spot for various violations including operating without licence, unauthorized sale of medicines, non-maintenance of records, and sale of medicines without the presence of an authorized pharmacist,” a police spokesman said.
He said establishments proceeded against during the drive include Shalimar Medicate, Aribagh Nowgam: Sealed for non-maintenance of computer-based records; Unknown Medical Store Sealed for operating without a valid licence; Mansha Medicate, Aribagh: Sealed for non-maintenance of records of NRx drugs; PMJAY Kendra: Sealed after recovery of medicines not authorized for sale; All Problem Solution Medical Shop: Found selling medicines unauthorizedly despite already suspended licence; Furqaan Medical Hall, Nowgam: Suspended for 2 days for non-maintenance of records; A to Z Generic Pharmacy, Naik Bagh Nowgam: Suspended for 3 days for selling medicines without an authorized pharmacist”.
“Police reiterate its commitment to continue strict action against individuals and establishments involved in illegal drug-related activities and unauthorized sale of medicines. Such drives shall continue across the district to ensure compliance with the law and to safeguard public health and safety,” the spokesman said.
Police has urged the public to cooperate with the authorities and share any information related to illegal drug activities with the nearest police establishment.
