Handwara, July 12: In a significant breakthrough against cybercrime, Police in Handwara has till date recovered an amount of ₹28 lakh in the current year which had been defrauded from public through various online scams. Of this, ₹16 lakh has already been restored to the rightful owners, while the remaining ₹12 lakh has been secured and will be disbursed after completion of legal formalities and receipt of court orders.
Throughout the current year, Police received several complaints regarding cyber fraud from residents across PD Handwara. Acting promptly, the Cyber Cell from Handwara Police, under the close supervision of senior officers, launched swift technical investigations. Early intervention enabled the freezing of fraudulent transactions, leading to the successful recovery of funds from the suspected accounts.
Police urges the general public to remain vigilant while using digital platforms, online banking services, and mobile applications. Citizens are advised not to share personal or financial information with unknown individuals and to report any suspicious activity immediately to the nearest police station or cybercrime helpline.
