
Poonch, Feb 7: The Indian Army today proudly announced the commencement of a cricket tournament in memory of Sub Late Ram Singh, Sena Medal (SM) at Mastandhara, District Poonch. The tournament was inaugurated by Colonel Rohit Bharat, Commanding Officer, 61 Rashtriya Rifles, amid enthusiastic participation from local youth and community members.The tournament is being organized from 07 February 2026 to 12 February 2026 under Operation Sadbhavana, with the noble objective of promoting sportsmanship, discipline, and a healthy competitive spirit among the youth of the region. A total of 12 teams comprising around 180 players are participating in the event, providing a vibrant platform for young talent to showcase their skills and potential.
The conduct of the Sub Late Ram Singh, SM, Cricket Tournament reflects the Indian Army’s continued commitment to encouraging sports activities and strengthening community engagement in remote areas. The event witnessed the presence of around 80 spectators, including civil dignitaries, who actively encouraged the players. Arrangements for tea and snacks were made for all invitees and participants during the match.Speaking on the occasion, Ex-Sarpanch Bufliaz, Ms. Tahira Tabasum, lauded the efforts of the Romeo Force, stating that the Indian Army has done tremendous work in the region for youth empowerment, peace-building, and overall development.The tournament stands as a symbol of unity and cooperation, fostering strong bonds between the Army and the local community.
