A powerful Improvised Explosive Device (IED) fitted in a pressure cooker was recovered and defused near Entrepreneurship Development Institute in Pampore on Srinagar-Jammu national highway.
A senior police officer said the IED was recovered by a joint team of security forces personnel outside the EDI.
“It was a two kg powerful IED kept in a pressure cooker. Alert forces spotted it and defused it,” he said.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Awantipore Tahir Saleem said the IED was recovered near IED on a roadside that leads towards Srinagar. “The IED was recovered and defused later,” he said.
Meanwhile, locals said the traffic was halted on the road stretch from Pampore to Sempora for nearly two hours while as security forces including army, CRPF and the police were on the job to defuse the explosive device.
