President Droupadi Murmu on Tuesday presented Shaurya Chakra to Rifleman Aurangzab, who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during an operation in north Kashmir in 2019.
“Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry, 44th Battalion, Rashtriya Rifles (Posthumous). During an operation in Baramulla, J&K, he evacuated an injured soldier and eliminated three terrorists with his team,” said a tweet by Rashtrapati Bhawan.
Aurangzeb, who was part of the South Kashmir based 44 Battalion Rashtriya Rifles, was waylaid by militants and subsequently killed few kilometres away from his residence.
The bullet-riddled body of the army soldier was found at a village in Pulwama, hours after he had left his unit in Shopian to join his family in Rajouri for Eid celebrations.
He was part of Major Rohit Shukla's team that gunned down Hizbul Mujahideen terrorist Sameer Tiger.
