Programme on women concludes in Srinagar college

The weeklong celebrations of International Women’s Day culminated with Valedictory function at Govt. College of Education (GCoE), IASE, M. A. Road, here.
The programme was organised by Women Studies Centre in collaboration with NSS unit I of the college under the aegis of ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahostav’.
This day was marked by lectures by eminent women personalities of the valley who shared their life experiences and highlighted the importance of women in different walks of life. The panel of guests included Dr. Saleema Jan, Director, EMMRC, University of Kashmir, Dr. Seemin Rubab, Professor, Department of Physics, NIT Srinagar and Rukhsana Jabeen, Former Director Radio Kashmir, Srinagar.
Earlier, during the first day of the week-long programme Principal of the college, Prof. (Dr.) Ruhi Kanth presented the inaugural address followed by keynote address by Dr. Shaheena Akhter, Coordinator, Women Studies Centre.
All the faculty and students participated in the Pledge ceremony where they took the resolution to respect, appreciate, celebrate and value the women’s achievements and ambitions.
Later, in the afternoon session poster competition was held on the theme “Mother- the first school of child” organised by WSC in collaboration with the Department of Art.
The second day was marked by the visit of a team of doctors from the Department of Community Medicine, SKIMS, Soura. A health awareness lecture was delivered by Dr. Shameela Hamid Qadri, Assistant Professor, Department of Community Medicine. This was followed by a health check up of college students by the same team of doctors, having specialisation in ophthalmology, dentistry, community medicine etc.
The day ended with an in - campus rally about gender equality in which students and faculty participated with zeal and enthusiasm.
The Third day of the program started with screening of a documentary about Progress of India post Independence. It was followed by a lecture by Dr. Neelofar Naz Nehvi, former Associate Professor, Department of Persian, GCW, M. A. Road, Srinagar.
An essay competition on the theme Progress of Indian women post Independence was held on the fourth day in college campus in which several students participated.
The detailed report of the weeklong programme was presented by Dr. Nousheen Qureshi, Coordinator NSS unit I. The program concluded with formal vote of thanks by Prof. Syed Shabana Shabir, Convenor AKAM.
