The word dictionary meaning of the word ‘Meelad’ is (Khushi)–happiness, joy and excitement. And connecting this word to the birth/death anniversary of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) attributes it a unique connotation and the context of this word gets at once out of the conventionality. History of the Arabia reveals that prophet Muhammad (pbuh) was born on 12th Rabi-ul-Awal in 570 A.D in the Quresh family of Mecca. His father Abdullah left this world before six months the prophet was born and his mother passed away when he was six. He was brought up by his grandfather –Abdul Mutalib and after his death his uncle Abu Talib took the responsibility of his upbringing. But, this lasted for very short time and ultimately he was left to the care of nature. The authencity of His prophet hood and a role model is has been well defined almighty Allah in the holy Quran:
Surely, a Messenger has come unto you from among yourselves; grievous to him is that you should fall into trouble; he is ardently desirous of your welfare; and to the believers he is compassionate, merciful.(9:128).And We have sent thee not but as a mercy for all peoples .Chapter.( 33:22) Verily you have in the Prophet of Allah an excellent model, for him who fears Allah and the Last Day and who remembers Allah much. (Chapter 21:108 ).Muhammad is not the father of any of your men, but he is the Messenger of Allah and the Seal of the Prophets; and Allah has full knowledge of all things.( 33:41:).And We have sent thee not but as a mercy for all peoples.( Chapter 21:108).O Prophet, truly we have sent thee as a Witness, and Bearer of glad tidings, and a Warner.( Chapter 33:46.).And as a Summoned unto Allah by His command, and as a Lamp that gives bright light. Chapter (Chapter 33:47).Allah and His angels send blessings on the Prophet. O ye who believe! You also should invoke blessings on him and salute him with the salutation of peace.( 33:57).He it is he who has sent His Messenger, with guidance and the Religion of truth, that He may make it prevail over all other religions. And sufficient is Allah as a Witness.( Chapter 48:29).And thou dost surely possess high moral excellences. But those who believe and work deeds of righteousness, and believe in the revelation sent down to Muhammad for it is the truth from their lord –he will remove from them their ills and improve their conditions.( Chapter 68:05).
Checking the practical applicability of his teachings and practical approach to every and every teaching on his own motivated and rather compelled the world level scholars and philosophers acknowledge him as a perfect model for the whole humanity. George Bernard Shaw would rightly say: if Muhammad (PBUH) were to resume the dictatorship of the world, it would bring everlasting peace and harmony to it. In his lecture entitled “The Hero as Prophet”, Carlyle outlined Muhammad (ﷺ) as a Hegelian agent of reform, insisting on his sincerity and commenting “how one man single-handedly, could weld warring tribes and wandering Bedouins into a most powerful and civilized nation in less than two decades”. His interpretation has been widely cited by Muslim scholars to show Muhammad without oriental’s bias. The Great Russian writer and philosopher admired Islam and its teachings of asepticism, ethics and mysticism. He was impressed by the prophet’s characteristics and wrote in article who is Muhammad? Muhammad is both founder and a messenger. He was among the great men who served the social framework profoundly. It suffices him that he guided a whole community to the light of truth and made it incline towards peace and tranquility, peruse asepticism, and prevented it from shedding blood and making human sacrifices , paving the way for development and civilization. This is a great deed that only a strong men can do and a man like him is worthy of respect and admiration.
The teachings and pragmatic tactics of Prophet Muhammad are so scientific and logical that no modern science can challenge them. We can comprehend from the practices he would often do. Offering prayers five times a day is a matter of Gods commandment and an obligation for a Muslim, but scientifically it is the best physical exercise that involves each and every bogy part. Brushing teeth is totally hygienic and medically preferred practice as keeps our stomach fresh and free from acidity. Prophet recommended it as an obligatory practice. He would recommended to sleep on right side of our body that has the scientific logic that while sleeping right side our heart remains active and we rise after a normal time gap. Wearing of cap (topi) protects our head from the harmful rays. Keeping our trousers above ankles protects us from the dirt and filth that is spread on ground. Urinating while being on haunches exerts a pressure on gallbladder and the urine is thrown out completely. The food culture allowed in Quran and recommended by Prophet is the most nutritious and medically acknowledged one. Wearing loose garments keeps our body flexible and comfortable. Our holy prophet would say that put on the dress that doesn’t reflect your body parts either it be men or women.
The life history and the fairly honest interaction with rest of the world combined with setting up modal code of conduct for the whole humanity elated them as role model for the whole humanity. The current world acknowledges their character and role at individual level as well at an established platform. He has set a unique example of an ideal individual as yielding completely to the divine rules manifested in the nature around us. As a ruler of the contemporary times in Arabian land they have proved as a man without faults. The Islamic set of laws fit to the whole worldly mechanism and ensures a smooth function of an ideal state. His teachings along with the practical life are both serving as a lighthouse for the whole world and whole humanity. Prophets compassionate character is exemplary in every aspect. Be it as an individual citizen, as a husband, as a father, as a neighbor, as a trader and ultimately as a ruler. The great scholars and philosophers have acknowledged his character and role all over the world. He was not only compassionate to humans, but also to animals and other creatures that is why an elephant and a deer would come to complain about their condition before him. Alongside he was very much concerned about economy and environment also. He would never hesitate top sweep his own room. He said: Cleanliness is half consent. And above the most significant aspect of his life was moralism based on sympathy, love, care and compassion. So, it would not be inapt to say that he is a universal role model and must be followed.
