Seizes unsafe food items, imposes fines
Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs (FCS&CA) department Pulwama, in collaboration with the Food Safety and Revenue departments, carried out intensive market checking drives today across various areas of the district.
These drives were conducted on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom to ensure strict adherence to food safety and hygiene standards, particularly in restaurants dealing with mutton and chicken items.
Multiple departmental teams comprising concerned TSOs, Naib-Tehsildars, members of the District Enforcement Squad, and Food Safety officials inspected more than 50 restaurants across the district. The teams also ensured that essential commodities are sold strictly at government-notified rates, thereby curbing overpricing.
During the drive, the items found unfit for consumption such as frozen Kababs, Ristas and momos were disposed-off on the spot and fines were imposed for violating food safety and hygiene norms.
In Rahmoo, several substandard and unsafe food items were seized from various hotels and destroyed on the spot to safeguard public health. Fines were imposed on the erring traders for violating food safety norms.
Proprietors were strictly directed to refrain from using banned items and to report any suppliers attempting to deliver such products, to the FCS&CA or Food Safety offices without delay.
