The Pulwama district administration on Monday intensified its crackdown on illegal mining, seizing 11 vehicles during night raids across multiple locations in the district.
Officials said teams of the Geology and Mining Department conducted surprise inspections in Wuyan, Malangpora, Awantipora, and Pastuna areas of Tral, where vehicles were found engaged in unauthorised extraction and transportation of minerals. The seized vehicles included tippers and dumpers operating without valid permits or e-challans.
Deputy Commissioner Pulwama Dr Basharat Qayoom has directed officials to maintain daily enforcement drives and strengthen coordination with the Revenue and Police Departments to ensure round-the-clock monitoring. District Mineral Officer Dr Mohammad Saleem said enforcement efforts would continue to prevent the depletion of mineral resources and to ensure compliance with mining regulations.
Authorities have warned vehicle operators to carry valid documentation while transporting minerals and cautioned that violations would invite strict legal action under relevant mining laws. The administration also appealed to the public to report instances of illegal mining to help protect the district’s natural resources.
