Amid the majestic display of military might and cultural diversity at the 71st Republic Day parade on Rajpath, Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday exhibited its tableau for the first time after it was declared an Union Territory.
The Reorganisation Act, 2019, which came into effect from 31st October, last year, bifurcated the erstwhile state into two Union Territories, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh to improve its governance.
Themed on J&K government's 'Back to Village' programme, the tableau received a great response from the people living in the far-flung and backward areas of the UT.
While the front of the tableau depicted shawl weavers symbolising the richness of unique tradition of Kashmir, the middle part was followed by various craftsmen with variety of artifacts at display along with traditional folk musicians to showcase the culture of UT.
Besides, the traditional Basolischool of painting from Jammu was a significant component of the tableau which displayed traditional paintings and workshops. The tableau was enriched with flora and fauna, while artists in ethnic attire walked along in tune with the blend of Kashmiri and Dogri folk music along with illustration.
Government of J&K, through 'Back to Village' programme, embarked on an ambitious and extensive endeavour to reach out to the people at the grassroots level to create in the rural masses an earnest desire for decent standard of living. It was introduced in 2019 with the aim to involve the people of the state and government officials in a joint effort to deliver equitable development. It is aimed at energising Panchayats and directing development efforts in rural areas through community participation.
