MeT forecasts continued wet weather

Srinagar, April 17: Amid forecast of intermittent spells of light rain and thundershowers at many places till Sunday, Kashmir witnessed light rainfall over the past 24 hours, the Meteorological Department said on Friday.
The MeT data showed that Srinagar recorded 2.6 mm of rainfall during the period.
Among other areas, Qazigund in south Kashmir received 4.4 mm, Kupwara in north Kashmir 6 mm, while the ski resort of Gulmarg recorded 7 mm, making it one of the wetter places in the Valley.
The tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir received 5.4 mm of rainfall.
Meanwhile, the night temperatures across the Kashmir remained 0–3°C above normal at many places.
The lowest minimum temperature in the Valley was recorded at Gulmarg at 3.6°C.
The MeT said a spell of wet weather is expected across Kashmir till April 19 with the Meteorological Department forecasting partly to generally cloudy skies and intermittent spells of light rain or thundershowers at many places.
These weather activities are likely to occur mainly during morning and evening or late evening hours. Gusty winds reaching speeds of 40–50 kmph and the possibility of hailstorms at a few locations have also been predicted during this period.
From April 20 to 24, weather conditions are expected to improve, with generally dry weather likely to prevail across the region.
The dry spell may continue on April 25 and 26 as well, although brief spells of light rain or thundershowers accompanied by gusty winds could occur at isolated places, particularly during the afternoon hours.
