
Rajouri, April, 1: Police Station Kandi, District Rajouri, organized a Mega Wrestling Competition titled “Dangal Khara” under the Civic Action Programme at the Irrigation Ground, Kotranka. The event was held as part of community policing initiatives aimed at promoting sportsmanship, channelizing the energy of youth towards constructive activities, and strengthening police-public relations.
The Dangal witnessed enthusiastic participation from wrestlers across the Jammu Division, with youth from various parts of the Jammu Province and adjoining areas taking part. A large number of spectators, including prominent citizens, elders, youth, and members of civil society, gathered to witness the traditional wrestling bouts. The atmosphere throughout the event remained vibrant and peaceful.
The programme was inaugurated by SSP Rajouri Gaurav Sikarwar IPS along with respected members of the community. In their address, the officers highlighted the importance of sports in maintaining physical fitness, discipline, and moral values among the youth. They emphasized that such initiatives play a vital role in steering young minds away from drug abuse, crime, and other social evils by engaging them in positive activities.
Speaking on the occasion, Senior Superintendent of Police Rajouri, Gaurav Sikarwar (IPS), stated that the Police Department is committed to encouraging youth participation in sports and constructive activities. He said that traditional events like “Dangal Khara” not only preserve the rich cultural heritage of the region but also provide a healthy platform for youth to showcase their talent and energy in a positive manner. He further emphasized that such initiatives strengthen the bond between police and the public and play a crucial role in building a peaceful and drug-free society.Around 50 wrestlers from across the Jammu Province participated in the championship, while nearly 100 children from District Rajouri also showcased their talent. A total of 100 bouts, including those of children, were held during the competition. The wrestling matches were conducted in different categories, including under-12, under-14, and senior categories.The competition featured several thrilling bouts between experienced and emerging wrestlers, reflecting remarkable strength, skill, and sportsmanship. Winners and runners-up were awarded trophies, medals, cash prizes, and other incentives. Travelling allowance was also provided to all participating wrestlers. Children participants were felicitated with gold and silver medals, along with suits and glasses, while refreshments were provided to all participants across categories.The local community appreciated the efforts of Police Station Kandi in organizing the event, terming it a commendable initiative that promotes traditional sports and preserves the cultural heritage of the region. They expressed gratitude towards the police for engaging youth in meaningful activities and strengthening community bonding.
