Rajouri woman critical after alleged wrong injection at GMC

June 07, 2026 | BK News Service

Rajouri, June 6: A woman from the Kotranka area of Rajouri district is reported to be in critical condition and on ventilator support at Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri after allegedly being administered a wrong injection following childbirth.

The patient, identified as Nusrat Jahan, was admitted to GMC Rajouri on Friday morning with labour pains. She underwent a successful cesarean delivery the same day, and her condition was initially reported to be stable, according to family members.
However, her brother, Asif Ali Choudhary, alleged that although the operating doctor had clearly noted in the patient’s file that certain medications could trigger an allergic reaction, the evening-duty staff failed to review the file properly and administered a restricted injection.
Following the alleged administration of the drug, the patient reportedly developed a severe allergic reaction and became unconscious. Her condition deteriorated rapidly, after which she was placed on ventilator support for emergency care.
The incident has triggered strong reactions from the family and local residents, who have demanded the registration of an FIR against the responsible staff, suspension of those involved, and action against long-serving employees at the hospital.
Taking cognizance of the allegations, Principal GMC Rajouri, Prof. (Dr.) A. S. Bhatia, has constituted a high-level committee of senior doctors to investigate the matter and review all aspects of the case.
The committee has been tasked with assessing the patient’s condition, examining the treatment provided, and submitting a detailed report to the principal’s office at the earliest.
The inquiry panel includes Dr. Chandra Shekhar, Dr. Jameel ul Hussain, Dr. Zakir Hussain, and Dr. Suhail Bande, who will also monitor the patient’s treatment and management plan.
