Ramadan is a spiritually transformative monthly fast that also strengthens social ties and fosters empathy for the less fortunate in Kashmir. The holy month also unites families and fosters social welfare. The atmosphere in Kashmir during Ramadan is one of harmony, generosity, and collective responsibility, making this season a crucial period for social unity and humanitarian ideals.
One of the distinctive characteristics of Ramadan in Kashmir is the community spirit. However, many shopkeepers give discounts or free food to the needy as a gesture of charity. Women perform a critical role in maintaining social solidarity and welfare during Ramadan. Women participate in meal preparations, organizing gatherings, and charity activities. They also prepare food for mosques and community Iftar. In this regard, women play critical roles in maintaining social solidarity and welfare in the society.
