Rangreth water crisis hits residents

August 09, 2026 | BK NEWS SERVICE

Srinagar, Aug 8: Industrialists and residents of the Industrial Estate Rangreth have raised serious concerns over the quality of drinking water being supplied to the area, alleging that the water reaching consumers is heavily contaminated and unfit for use.

The users have expressed strong resentment against the concerned authorities, particularly SIDCO and the Industries and Commerce Department, questioning how such poor-quality water is being supplied to an industrial estate despite consumers being charged thousands of rupees every month for the facility.
Some of the consumers said that water appearing heavily muddy and discoloured, with the supply resembling drainage water rather than potable water.
The users alleged that the situation reflects gross negligence on the part of those responsible for maintaining the water supply system in the industrial estate.
They demanded immediate intervention from the authorities and sought accountability from the officials responsible for ensuring the provision of safe and hygienic drinking water to the industrial estate.
“The water being supplied is worsSre than drainage water, while people and industrialists are being charged thousands of rupees every month for this so-called water supply,” the aggrieved users said.
They further demanded that the quality of the supplied water be examined and that responsibility be fixed if the allegations regarding the condition of the water are found to be correct.
