Research-driven edu key to addressing contemporary challenges: Min Itoo

Minister for Health, Medical Education, Social Welfare, and Education, Sakeena Itoo today emphasized the importance of research-driven education in tackling contemporary challenges and building a knowledge-based society.
She was speaking at the inauguration of the Two-Day International Conference on Emerging Trends in Multidisciplinary Research (ICETMR-2025), hosted by Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Jammu.
In her presidential address, the Minister commended GGM Science College for promoting academic excellence and providing a platform for young researchers. She highlighted the importance of fostering innovation, interdisciplinary collaboration, and critical thinking to prepare students for global challenges.
Sakeena Itoo also lauded the faculty and administration for nurturing a culture of inquiry and encouraged active contributions to nation-building through meaningful research. She noted that the conference offers a vibrant platform for scholarly exchange, aiming to uplift educational standards in Jammu and Kashmir.
MLA Jammu East, Yudhveer Sethi praised the college for organizing a high-scale academic event and stressed the role of youth in shaping a progressive society.
Additional Chief Secretary, Higher Education, Shantmanu spoke about government efforts to promote innovation-led education across the UT.
Principal Prof. Romesh Kumar Gupta welcomed the guests and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to empowering students through quality education and research.
Vice Chancellor of Cluster University of Jammu, Prof. K S Chardrasekar, stressed the need to strengthen research culture in higher education institutions.
In his keynote address, noted academician Prof. Rajnikant emphasized the value of interdisciplinary research in addressing real-world problems.
Convener Dr. Parshotam Singh Manhas shared that 178 researchers would present their work during the two-day event. Conference Coordinator Dr. Vandana Khajuria highlighted the importance of such platforms in inspiring and engaging young minds.
The Minister also released the Abstract Book and the College Newsletter, showcasing the scholarly contributions of participants.
Earlier, she e-inaugurated the newly developed Skill Tower, Geography Block, renovated Physics and Chemistry Blocks of the heritage building, Conference Hall, and a new Browsing Centre at GGM Science College.
