In the spiritual saga, cashmere stands delineated as the bearer of standard badge of distinction. The reason backing this distinction remains this that the valley has been an abode to the varied, diverse and multiplicity of spiritual heads. Rishis, Munis, Peers right from the times of Kashyap Rishi have found no parallel and comparison to the spiritual comfort that they experienced in cashmere. Remaining and acting like garlandous cradle for such spiritual souls has earned the moniker as termed “Resh Vaer” or ‘Peer Vaer” for the vale. This is more interesting to know and acknowledge that while acting as “PeerVaer” in harbouring these spiritual souls, valley has not discriminated but has extended its habitat equally to every religion which remains a quality hardly matched by anyone.
As elsewhere, in the universe, these saints, Rishi, Peers may be stratified and diversified in approach. While some would confine themselves in dense forests, mountain peaks, un-trodden Chaunts and lead a life of an austere ascetic, a life of celibacy and a life of meditation. Others would, as like common men, continue to walk and live within the major life current; busy in day to day chores. while the remaining may present the blend of the earlier too modes. Whatever, there mode of perusal, the reality is that they were and are tangled upon for purifying the general masses, for laying guidelines for living life, for nourishing the spiritual vigor in people and act as teachers to teach practical conduct. We adhere to their teachings from the point of view of religion and through already created ignorance about religions, compartmentalize them as an individual heritage of a particular group thereby creating the sense of Ethinocentricism and Xenophobia.
They are here to teach “way of life’’ and to lead. They are here for beliefs, and practices and we dilute their teachings by practicing undue rituals which had never been the part of their lessons.
Sheikh-ul-Alam Sheikh Noor-ud-din Noorani (R.A), figures out to be the fore- runner of the conglomeration of these Rishis, Peers and in this regard he bestows to the valley the rank of adoring such a saint hardly matched. He has presented himself as an epitome of multi-diverse, multi-dimensional and a multi-personality bearer. His personality spectrum is so wide that even after 5 centuries he remains to be the least explored character. It is interesting to know, that with every advancement of society in terms of technology, culture, literature, science and technology; teachings, findings and opinions of the Sheikh (R.A) are proving to be more relevant. Science would find his teachings in consonance to its laws ,theories, hypothesis and cause –effect relationship. Literary groups would find him flawless in having adopted the literary rules in highest degree of perfections in his writings. Political analysts can easily carve out of him a best political figure of the times. Social engineers would be bestowed with an icon in the form of Sheikh (R.A). Environmentalists, administrators, linguists would learn to seek his guidance as he at his times has mastered all these spheres with top perfection. Research on this front would produce an exposition of such a soul which no body could have believed in.
Annoying, agonizing and pitiful remains the outlook, perception of having and continue to have a uni-dimensional & constrictive approach for visualizing and understanding the Sheikh (R.A). It’s devastation is that it restricts the personality of Sheikh(R.A) and creates his image, to be visualized as a mere rag clad old man absorbed within him hardly to do anything with the issues and intricacies of this world making his teaching vis-à-vis the affairs of the life a nullity. When the reality is that he knew almost every field and had concern with every aspect of life. To the misfortune, his teachings remained untaught and in return what prevailed was a mere hollow devotion to rituals which he himself had repeatedly denounced. This act of restricting such a magnanimous personality to a mere ascetic has stultified his personality that needed to be known for the practicality and to me is a heinous crime as that of personality murder of Sheikh (R.A).
Relocating, re-exploring and re-projection of Sheikh (R.A) has become must and a bouden duty of everyone who has faith in him. He needs to be presented as a man of relevance vis-à-vis every field of life and not only a mere mediant. His wisdom, integrity, intellect deserves to be put forth, which definitely demands research that too with highest degree of inquisition and perfection.
From study of a bits of his teachings, to me, Sheikh(R.A) exhibited himself as An educationist, An Administrator, A linguist, A political Analyst, A social- engineer, An Ambassador of communal harmony, An environmentalist, A man of foresight and vision ,An intellect and what not? Our Endeavour as self-proclaimed devotees of sheikh (R.A) on this Urs and many more to come must be to explore him on these lines and put him before the world as the most relevant figure in contemporary times , to inculcate his teachings in our deeds and to shun mere customes which he has strictly denounced .That is only way to present our respects and reverences to Our sheikh (R.A).Otherwise we are running a risk of losing him to fables of superstition ,undue customs and conjectures.
