Dimapur, June 10: President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Shaurya Chakra on Rifleman Dhurba Jyoti Dutta of 33 Assam Rifles for exceptional bravery and operational excellence during a life-threatening ambush in Manipur.

The honour recognises his courageous actions in September 2025, when he and his unit were returning from flood relief operations in the Imphal Valley. During the movement, their vehicle came under sudden attack by anti-national elements.
Despite intense hostile fire, Rifleman Dutta displayed remarkable presence of mind and driving skills, managing to steer the vehicle out of the “killing zone” under fire. His quick response and composure ensured the safe evacuation of eight fellow soldiers who were also onboard.
His decisive action prevented potential casualties and turned a highly dangerous situation into a successful evacuation under fire.
The award highlights his gallantry, devotion to duty, and commitment to safeguarding the lives of his comrades while operating in a high-risk environment.
