August 17, 2025 | BK News Service

In a feat that reflects sheer grit, resilience, and international military camaraderie, Rifleman Kiran Bahadur of the Indian Army's Spear Corps has successfully scaled Mount Kun (7077 m), the second-highest peak in the Western Himalayan Range, as part of the Joint Indo-Argentine Army Expedition.
The expedition reached its summit on August 5, 2025, overcoming extreme weather, treacherous terrain, and the physical challenges of high-altitude climbing. The achievement has been hailed by the Indian Army, with Eastern Command officially congratulating Rifleman Bahadur for his “remarkable achievement” that adds yet another glorious chapter to the Indian Army’s mountaineering legacy.
Mt Kun, part of the Nun-Kun massif in the Suru Valley of Ladakh, stands as a formidable challenge even for seasoned mountaineers. The joint expedition between India and Argentina was aimed not only at promoting adventure training and enhancing combat readiness in extreme environments, but also at strengthening ties between the armed forces of both nations.
Rifleman Kiran Bahadur, known among his peers for his dedication and physical endurance, displayed exceptional courage and leadership throughout the climb. Braving sub-zero temperatures, thinning oxygen levels, and the unpredictability of glacier terrain, his ascent represents not just personal triumph, but also national pride.
“This achievement reflects his exemplary courage, endurance, and unwavering determination in the face of extreme challenges at high altitude,” the Eastern Command stated. “His success not only brings glory to the Indian Army but also strengthens the bonds of international military camaraderie.”
The expedition is part of the Indian Army’s larger focus on building joint operational capability with friendly foreign nations, especially in high-altitude warfare and extreme terrain operations. It also highlights India’s growing role in fostering global defence cooperation through such collaborative missions.
The Indian Army has a long and decorated history in the world of mountaineering, with its personnel having scaled peaks like Everest, Kangchenjunga, and now Kun. The success of Rifleman Bahadur continues this legacy and serves as an inspiration for young soldiers and mountaineers across the country.
As Rifleman Bahadur returns from the summit, the Army, his comrades, and the nation salute his spirit and dedication. The Indian Army has extended best wishes for his future endeavours and assured all support in nurturing such remarkable talent.
His story is a reminder that true strength lies not just in might, but in resilience, collaboration, and the spirit to rise above all odds.
