Saifullah’s induction raises hopes in North Kashmir

October 28, 2026 | Mohammad Danish

Srinagar, Oct 27: Senior National Conference leader Mir Saifullah on Tuesday pledged to work for the welfare of people across Jammu and Kashmir after being inducted into Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s Council of Ministers, raising expectations in Kupwara and wider North Kashmir for accelerated development and better public services.

Speaking to reporters after taking oath as a Cabinet minister, Saifullah thanked the party leadership and Almighty Allah for the opportunity, assuring that he would make every effort to address public issues across all districts of the Union Territory.
“I will try my best to work for every district and address the issues of people in Jammu and Kashmir. I thank Almighty Allah for the ministerial berth. We will work together to strengthen the party,” he said.
Saifullah was among four legislators inducted into the Cabinet on Tuesday. The other new ministers are Ali Mohammad Sagar, Shamima Firdous and Altaf Ahmad Wani (Kallo).
His elevation is particularly significant for Trehgam, Kupwara and adjoining areas of North Kashmir, where residents continue to seek improvements in road connectivity, healthcare infrastructure, employment opportunities and public-service delivery.
The induction has renewed attention to the region’s development aspirations, with people expecting their concerns to receive greater attention in the government’s policy decisions and development agenda.
The portfolios assigned to the newly inducted ministers will be closely watched, particularly in terms of their ability to expedite projects, improve public services and ensure timely redressal of grievances.
However, Cabinet representation alone cannot guarantee tangible change. The real test will lie in effective governance, timely implementation of development projects and translating public expectations into measurable improvements on the ground.
