
Srinagar, July 1: Minister for Health and Medical Education, Social Welfare and School Education, Sakeena Itoo on Wednesday chaired a high-level review meeting to assess developmental works and public service delivery in the Khansahib, Hazratbal, Pampore, Sopore and Zainpora Assembly constituencies.
The meeting was attended by MLAs Hasnain Masoodi, Salman Ali Sagar, Showkat Hussain Ganai, Saif Ud Din Bhat and Irshad Rasool Kar, who raised key public issues and development priorities concerning their respective constituencies. Senior officers from the concerned departments were also present.
The Minister conducted a comprehensive review of the Health, School Education and Social Welfare sectors, besides monitoring the progress of ongoing developmental projects. She directed officials to ensure prompt redressal of public grievances and timely completion of all approved works.
Reviewing the health sector, Sakeena Itoo stressed the need to strengthen healthcare infrastructure by operationalising identified Primary Health Centres as 24×7 facilities, improving ambulance services, expediting pending infrastructure projects and ensuring proper mapping of medical blocks. She also called for enhanced diagnostic facilities, including CT scan services at the Trauma Centre, and directed that unsafe health buildings be reconstructed on priority.
The Minister emphasized transparency and accountability in project execution, directing action against officials responsible for unauthorized changes in Detailed Project Reports (DPRs). She also instructed departments to maintain transparency in tendering, discourage below-estimate bids and ensure contractors adhere to quality standards and project timelines.
Reviewing the School Education sector, she directed officials to speed up the upgradation of schools, bridge infrastructure gaps and ensure equitable distribution of educational resources.
In the Social Welfare sector, the Minister stressed expanding outreach under Central and UT-sponsored welfare schemes through awareness camps and directed intensified ICDS coverage in uncovered and left-out areas.
She also reviewed constituency-specific issues, including the completion of Government Degree College, school and hospital buildings, regulation of unauthorized constructions and identification of unsafe structures for necessary action.
Assuring the legislators that all genuine issues would be addressed on priority, Sakeena Itoo directed departments to maintain close coordination with elected representatives for effective implementation of developmental initiatives and timely resolution of public grievances.
She reiterated that strengthening public services and accelerating development across all constituencies remain among the government's top priorities.
