Schools in Kashmir will reopen after the 15-day summer break on Tuesday, Minister of School Education, Sakina Itoo announced on Monday.
Itoo’s announcement put to end all speculation regarding extension of the summer vacation, despite the ongoing heatwave.
The 15-day summer break for schools in Kashmir had commenced on June 23 after the intense heat wave had gripped Kashmir.
The announcement of reopening of schools came days after Srinagar witnessed its highest day temperature in over seven decades.
This year, Kashmir also recorded the hottest June in nearly 50 years.
"We are reopening schools from tomorrow in Kashmir Division & Winter Zones of Jammu Division," Itoo said.
In Srinagar and other municipal areas, schools will function from 7:30 am to 11:30 am.
In rural areas and regions outside municipal limits, school timings will be 8:00 AM to 12 noon.
“Following a one-hour break, two online classes will be conducted for all students. Teachers have been instructed to remain available for academic support till 2 pm. All Heads of Institutions (HoIs) must ensure that online classes are conducted without exception,” Itoo said.
