Srinagar, March 19: The shawal moon marking the end of the holy month of Ramadan was not sighted on Thursday evening, and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated across Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday.
Grand Mufti J&K Nasir-ul-Islam said no credible reports of the Shawwal moon sighting were received from any part of the region.
He said with no sighting of Shawal moon, Eid-ul-Fitr marking the culmination of holy month of Ramadan would be celebrated on Saturday.
Muslims across the Valley will celebrate Eid with traditional fervour and religious enthusiasm on Saturday.
Mufti Nasir extended greetings to the people on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and prayed for peace and prosperity.
Special prayers (Eid namaz) will be offered at Eidgahs and mosques, while people are continuing preparations for the festival, including shopping and arrangements for gatherings.
