
The Sher Quila Cricket League, an eight-day long cricket tournament, concluded with great enthusiasm in the border village of Batalik. The tournament, held from June 19 to June 25, was jointly organized by the Fire and Fury Corps of the Indian Army in collaboration with local community members. The league saw participation from 14 cricket teams representing various sports clubs across Kargil District, Ladakh.
The final match, played on June 26, was a thrilling contest between Chulichan B and Darchik A. In a fiercely competitive game, Chulichan B emerged victorious by 19 runs. Mohd Toha from Chulichan B was declared the Man of the Match for his outstanding performance.
The final match was graced by the Chief Guest, Kacho Mohammed Feroz, Executive Councillor for Tourism, LAHDC Kargil, along with senior military and civil officials. Trophies and awards were distributed to the winners, runners-up, and standout performers.
In a special gesture, five former Kargil War porters were also felicitated during the event for their services to the nation.
Speaking on the occasion, Kacho Mohammed Feroz lauded the Indian Army for organizing such grand sporting events in remote border areas. He highlighted that these initiatives play a significant role in identifying and nurturing talent among local youth, while also promoting a healthy lifestyle and steering them away from negative influences like drug abuse. He expressed gratitude for the Army’s welfare initiatives, especially in the field of education, and paid rich tributes to the martyrs of the region, acknowledging Batalik as the land of brave hearts.
The matches were played on a league-cum-knockout basis, and the event drew large crowds, including local residents and visiting tourists. Among the spectators was a young tourist, Master Ridhansh from Jalandhar, who expressed admiration for the unique experience of watching a cricket match amid the stunning rocky landscapes of Batalik.
