SKUAST-K celebrates World Veterinary Day

Prof Nazir, Col SK Dahiya hail contribution of Vets

Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology-Kashmir (SKUAST-K) Saturday celebrated World Veterinary Day 2024 at the Veterinary Faculty, Shuhama, highlighting the theme "Veterinarians are Essential Health Workers". This annual event, observed globally on the last Saturday of April, honours the vital role of veterinary professionals in safeguarding animal health, human health, and the environment.
Veterinary scientists, para veterinary professionals, research scholars, undergrad and postgrad students and school children from nearby schools participated in the daylong function. The celebration included a range of activities: awareness rally, flag hoisting, the unveiling of the "Vets Vision 2024", a quiz competition, theme-related lectures, and initiatives like village and school adoption for animal production and health interventions.
On this occasion, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir Prof NazirAGanai highlighted the significant contribution of Vets worldwide in safeguarding the health of animals, humans and the ecosystem. He said, "SKUAST-K is globally known for its supportive learning environment and for nurturing a skilled and resilient Veterinary Workforce capable of meeting present and future challenges. And the theme of World Veterinary Day 2024 aligns with our dedication, initiatives and efforts towards a healthier and more sustainable future, he added.
Col SK Dahiya in his address hailed the SKUAST-K initiatives towards One Health. He further said that it's the time to strive together to create a brighter future where animals thrive, and opportunities flourish under the care and expertise of Veterinarians.
The valedictory function of the XX Annual Convention of the Indian Society for Advancement of Canine Practice (ISACP) on "Insights on latest developments in Companion Animal Practice and healthcare management" was also held at the same venue, with over 200 delegates from across the country participating in the three-day event. Dr Nazir Ahmad Sudan, Vice President of ISACP, delivered the concluding remarks.
Dr Mudasir Ali Rather delivered a keynote lecture on the World Veterinary Day theme, followed by the distribution of special prizes to participants of the quiz programs held as part of the commemoration.Dr AmatulMuhee presented the conference report and proceedings, with Dr Abdul Hai extending the vote of thanks.
