
Srinagar, Feb 18: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) concluded its 21-day ICAR Winter School on “Fostering Climate Resilience and Sustainability through Organic and Regenerative Agriculture” at the Shalimar campus, marking a milestone in national collaborative research on sustainable farming practices.
The program brought together 30 scientists and faculty members from 10 states and Union Territories, combining traditional organic practices with modern regenerative agricultural science. Conducted under Course Director Prof Parmeet Singh, Chief Scientist of Agronomy, the curriculum featured 40 offline and 10 online sessions led by national and international experts.
Participants benefited from insights shared by Dr Rattan Lal, World Food Prize Laureate and soil scientist, along with contributions from Prof Baghirath Singh Chauhan (University of Queensland), Dr Asmita Murumukar (Ohio State University), Dr Ramesh Singh (ICRISAT), and Dr K Kathiresan (Annamalai University), as well as specialists from ICAR and various State Agricultural Universities.
During the valedictory function, Dr Haroon Rashid Naik, Director of Research, SKUAST-K, commended the high scientific standard and interactive approach of the Winter School, which included lectures, laboratory work, and field exposure visits. He encouraged participants to act as ambassadors of “nature-positive” technologies and implement regenerative practices in their respective institutions.
Certificates were distributed by Vice Chancellor Prof Nazir Ahmad Ganai, who highlighted SKUAST-K’s growing role in promoting sustainable and climate-resilient agriculture. He emphasized that the program positions Kashmir at the forefront of India’s regenerative agriculture movement, strengthening the country’s capacity to tackle climate challenges in agriculture.
