In today’s world, social ethics, hypocrisy, and selfishness have left deep scars on our lives. We are living in an era where people are more interested in discussing the flaws and weaknesses of others rather than reflecting on their own actions and thoughts. Wherever we go, we mostly hear gossip, blame, and negativity. In such an environment, the very essence of humanity, love, and compassion seems to be fading away.
The bitter reality of our time is that "respect and honor are now reserved only for the wealthy." Wealth has become the true measure of a person’s worth, and this reality grows clearer with each passing day. The rich can do as they please and still receive respect, while the poor and pious are overlooked despite their rights. Truthfulness, honesty, and integrity — once the cornerstones of our social values — have been buried under the glitter of materialism.
This painful truth shows that the world has become a narrow place for the poor." A poor person is always looked down upon because of their financial status; their struggles are mocked, and their sufferings are ignored. Society's attitude has become so cruel that even the devout and sincere now find the world to be a suffocating place.
This environment of social hypocrisy and selfishness makes one realize that "people are deeply concerned about their worldly lives, but only concerned with others’ afterlives. "We have become so engrossed in our daily lives that we no longer feel the pain of others. Our days are consumed by personal interests and fulfilling our own desires. If someone helps us, it is often because they seek to fulfill a personal need — and once that need is met, they forget us. In this society, people use each other. Often, the ones closest to us are the ones who turn against us. In such a selfish world, choosing companions requires great caution — for a wrong companion can ruin both our worldly life and our afterlife.
We have entered such a wild race for material gain that we have forgotten our humanity and truthfulness. Our focus has shifted to how much wealth, status, and power we have, without ever reflecting on the impact our character and actions have on others.
Truth and sincerity are vanishing from our social relationships. We are heading towards an age of deception and hypocrisy. This is why there is a desperate need for loyalty, love, and compassion in our relationships. While worrying about our own world, we must not forget that "we are also responsible for the conditions and afterlife of others."
Now is the time to set our priorities straight — to stop running after material desires and instead make humanity, truth, and sincerity a part of our lives. We must realize that this world is fleeting, and true success and peace lie in the Hereafter. If we participate in others’ suffering, help them, and work for their well-being, that alone will be the real success.
