In this mortal world, a person is superior to animals because he possesses intellect and wisdom. A person who thinks that animals are better than humans is mistaken. Allah Almighty has granted humans reason and understanding. Through reason, a person attains honor and dignity. Whoever uses reason properly recognizes the Creator. Whoever lives without reason lives in ignorance. Knowledge is obligatory for everyone—rich or poor—because Allah loves knowledge and wisdom. A person who reflects understands his worth. True honor lies in knowledge and character. Without these, a person is no better than an animal. If a person fails to understand himself, he cannot understand the world. Thinking elevates a person, while ignorance degrades him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said:
“Seeking knowledge is obligatory upon every Muslim. ”A person who gains knowledge attains honor and status. Ignorance leads to misguidance. Allah has given humans intellect as a test. Whoever uses it correctly is successful, and whoever misuses it faces loss. The Qur’an repeatedly emphasizes reflection and understanding. Those who do not think are compared to the deaf and blind. A knowledgeable person benefits not only himself but society as well. Knowledge brings ease, while ignorance brings hardship. A society without knowledge falls behind. Therefore, acquiring knowledge is essential for progress and success. The life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) is the greatest example of wisdom and guidance. His teachings illuminate hearts and minds. Whoever follows his path attains peace and success in this world and the Hereafter. An Ameer (wealthy person) realizes the pain of poverty only when he himself becomes poor. Similarly, the sweetness of faith is truly felt only when one experiences hardship for its sake. A white garment is valued only when it gets stained. In the same way, a person realizes his worth only after facing trials. If a person has never faced hardship, he cannot truly understand ease. When a white garment becomes dirty, it needs washing; likewise, when the heart becomes stained, repentance and self-reflection are needed. Patience makes hardships easier. Those who endure difficulties with patience are rewarded. Trials purify a person. Wealth and poverty are both tests. Sometimes poverty becomes a blessing because it brings a person closer to Allah, while wealth can become a trial that leads one away from Him. True richness is not the abundance of wealth but contentment of the heart. Many people are wealthy yet restless, while many poor people live with peace and satisfaction. A person who understands the reality of life does not complain but remains grateful in every condition. Worldly success is temporary, but spiritual success is everlasting. A person should not be proud of wealth nor ashamed of poverty. Both conditions are part of Allah’s wisdom. Life is a test, and everyone is being tested in a different way. Patience, gratitude, and faith are the true ornaments of a believer. Hardships teach lessons that comfort never can. Those who reflect upon difficulties grow stronger in character and belief. Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ said that a true Muslim is one from whose hands and tongue other Muslims are safe. A Muslim is not one who harms others, but one who spreads peace, patience, and compassion .Poverty's Role in Building Society
Poverty, when embraced with faith, fosters empathy and unity in society. The Qur’an states: “And in their wealth is a recognized right for the beggar and the deprived” (51:19). This command urges the wealthy to share, bridging divides between rich and poor. The Prophet (PBUH) exemplified this during the Battle of Tabuk, when he appealed for charity amid scarcity. Even the poorest, like Hazrat Abu Hurairah (RA), gave what little they had—a date or a goat—teaching that generosity multiplies blessings. Societies thrive when the affluent support the needy, creating harmony instead of resentment. Wealth's Test for the Community
Conversely, unchecked wealth breeds arrogance, fracturing social bonds. The Prophet (PBUH) warned: “Beware of the supplication of the oppressed, for there is no barrier between it and Allah” (Bukhari). A society ignoring the poor invites divine displeasure and instability. True progress demands collective action: educating the impoverished, providing zakat, and promoting skills. In Medina, the Prophet (PBUH) paired rich Muhajireen with poor Ansar, turning poverty into brotherhood. Today, emulating this builds resilient communities where knowledge and compassion uplift all. Therefore, remember that hardships are not a punishment but a means of purification and growth. Whoever understands this reality lives with dignity and inner peace. Ameer (wealth) and poverty are both realities of life, but true success lies in obedience to Allah and following the teachings of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ. Islam gives clear guidance regarding the rights of human beings. In this regard, the instructions of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ are as follows:
Do not associate partners with Allah, and treat people with good manners. Do not hurt anyone through your words or actions. (Bukhari)
Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day should speak good words or remain silent. (Bukhari)
Do not harm others, and do not respond to harm with harm. (Bukhari)
A believer is one from whose hands and tongue people are safe. (Qur’an & Hadith) Hazrat Muhammad ﷺ lived a life in which he endured extreme poverty with patience and dignity. Despite hardships, he never complained. His life is the best example for humanity. Once someone asked why Allah’s Messenger ﷺ chose a simple life despite having the option of comfort. The answer lies in the wisdom that hardship refines character and strengthens faith. Poverty does not mean disgrace, nor does wealth guarantee honor. True honor is granted by Allah to those who remain patient, grateful, and righteous. A poor person who remains content and faithful is far superior to a wealthy person who is arrogant and ungrateful. Therefore, poverty should not be a source of shame, nor should wealth become a reason for pride. Both are tests from Allah. Whoever understands this reality lives with dignity, balance, and inner peace.
