
Over 5K rooftop solar installations in Sgr: DC Labroo
Srinagar, April 22: Deputy Commissioner Srinagar, Akshay Labroo, presided over a mega awareness-cum-registration camp for the PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana at Kashmir Haat to promote rooftop solar adoption and facilitate on-the-spot registrations.
Organized by Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL), the camp saw strong public participation, reflecting rising interest in clean and sustainable energy solutions.
Senior officials, including Chief Planning Officer Fayaz Ahmad Dar and KPDCL engineers, along with vendors and technical experts, attended the event to guide citizens on eligibility, subsidies, installation procedures, and registration under the scheme.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC highlighted that rooftop solar installations can significantly cut electricity bills while supporting environmental sustainability. He stressed that the scheme is voluntary and demand-driven, urging residents to take advantage of subsidies and shift toward renewable energy.
Labroo called for intensified outreach and more such camps across the district to maximize coverage and ensure more households benefit from reduced power costs.
During the visit, he inspected registration stalls, interacted with participants, and felicitated beneficiaries who have already installed rooftop solar systems. Live demonstrations and interactive sessions were also held to address public queries.
Officials informed that over 5,000 rooftop solar systems have already been installed in Srinagar under the scheme, marking steady progress toward clean energy adoption in the district.
