
A soldier was killed in a gunfight with terrorists near the Line of Control (LoC) in Uri sector of north Kashmir after troops foiled an infiltration bid during the preceding night.
An army official said during the preceding night, the army foiled an infiltration bid of terrorists along the LoC in Churanda area of Uri sector.
“There was an intense gunfire between the two sides in which a soldier was killed,” sources said.
The deceased soldier was identified as Havaldar Ankit Kumar, a resident of Bhagalpur Bihar.
Srinagar-based Chinar Corps of Army said Havaldar Ankit Kumar laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control.
“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar who laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control in Uri, Baramulla,” the Army said on X.
Official sources, however, said the exchange of fire occurred amid inclement weather and a massive combing operation was later carried out in the area.
The gunbattle at the Uri sector comes four days after two soldiers of the elite counter insurgency unit of Army were killed in a fierce gunfight with terrorists in Akhal forests of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
