Assam/Mizoram, June 26: Intelligence-based coordinated operations conducted by formations of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles under Spear Corps, in close coordination with State Police, Excise and Narcotics departments, led to significant seizures and arrests across Assam and Mizoram over a three-day period from June 22 to 24, 2026.
The operations were carried out across Upper Assam, Champhai, and Aizawl districts following specific intelligence inputs regarding the movement of narcotics and illegal arms in the region.
During the joint operations, security forces apprehended seven individuals suspected to be involved in drug trafficking and related illegal activities. A total of 179.42 grams of heroin (No. 4) was recovered, along with one firearm and associated ammunition.
Officials estimated the total value of the seized contraband and materials at approximately ₹1.34 crore in the illegal market.
Security agencies stated that the operations were conducted in a highly coordinated manner, ensuring swift action based on actionable intelligence inputs. The recovered narcotics and arms are being examined as part of further investigation to trace the broader network involved in the trafficking route.
Authorities said the arrests and seizures reflect the sustained commitment of security forces to curb the menace of narcotics and illegal arms smuggling in the Northeast region, which continues to be vulnerable due to its proximity to international borders and complex terrain.
The apprehended individuals have been handed over to the concerned law enforcement agencies for further legal proceedings under relevant sections of law.
Officials further reiterated that such joint operations will continue in a sustained manner to dismantle networks involved in narcotics trafficking and to strengthen internal security across the region.
