Along, Jan 5: The Spearhead Division of SpearCorps organized and flagged off an Eco-Tourism Exposure Tour on January 4, 2026, from Along Military Station in Arunachal Pradesh. The initiative is aimed at providing practical training and hands-on experience to students of NEFTU College, Aalo, in the field of eco-tourism and sustainable livelihoods.
The program began with a three-day homestay experience, during which the students were immersed in local village life, learning about traditional practices, community management, and environmental conservation. Eco-tourism experts conducted workshops covering sustainable tourism practices, hospitality management, and the promotion of local culture to ensure students develop a holistic understanding of responsible tourism.
Following the homestay and training, the students are set to travel to Darjeeling and Kalimpong, key destinations in North Bengal, to gain practical exposure in tourism operations, customer interaction, and eco-friendly livelihood practices. The hands-on experience is expected to equip them with skills to contribute to local tourism development while preserving cultural and ecological integrity.
Officials from the Spearhead Division highlighted that the initiative is part of ongoing efforts by the Indian Army to engage with youth in remote areas, empowering them with knowledge and vocational skills while promoting environmental awareness and sustainable development.
Students participating in the tour expressed excitement at the opportunity to learn beyond the classroom, interact with local communities, and experience the workings of the tourism industry firsthand. The program underscores the collaboration between educational institutions and the armed forces to foster skill development, environmental stewardship, and community engagement in Arunachal Pradesh.
