
Srinagar, Aug 7: The Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council today marked the successful conduct of two significant sporting activities in the Kashmir division, reaffirming its commitment to grassroots sports development and youth engagement across the Union Territory.
The 8th District Pulwama Soft Tennis Championship 2026-27 concluded today with a closing ceremony at the Indoor Sports Complex, Tral, Pulwama. The championship was organized by the District Pulwama Soft Tennis Association under the banner of the Jammu & Kashmir Amateur Soft Tennis Association, affiliated with the Amateur Soft Tennis Federation of India (ASTFI), in collaboration with the J&K Sports Council.
The two-day event witnessed enthusiastic participation from players across the district, who displayed exceptional skill, discipline and sportsmanship. The tournament served as an important platform for identifying promising players who will represent District Pulwama at higher-level competitions.
The closing ceremony was graced by Rajesh Kumar, SDPO Tral, as Chief Guest. Shakir Ashraf, General Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Amateur Soft Tennis Association, and Bashir Ahmad, Manager, Sports Stadium Tral, Pulwama, attended as Guests of Honour.
Speaking on the occasion, Rajesh Kumar congratulated the organizers on the successful conduct of the championship and appreciated the dedication of the young athletes, encouraging them to strive for excellence and uphold the true spirit of sportsmanship.
Shakir Ashraf highlighted the growing popularity of Soft Tennis in Jammu & Kashmir and assured the Association's continued support for nurturing young talent.
Bashir Ahmad applauded the efforts of the organizers and emphasised the importance of regular sporting activities in shaping disciplined and healthy youth.
Medals, trophies and certificates were presented to the winners, runners-up and outstanding performers across various categories.

Meanwhile, Special Summer Activities under My Youth My Pride 2026-2027 initiative of the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, was successfully organized at P/F Kulangam, Kupwara.
The programme was conducted under the guidance of Nuzhat Gul, Secretary, Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council, and Krupali, Divisional Sports Officer (DSO), Kashmir, with the aim of promoting sports culture, encouraging youth participation and nurturing sporting talent, particularly in remote and border areas of the Union Territory. The event witnessed the participation of more than 120 young football players, reflecting the growing interest of youth in sports.
Showket Ahmad, I/C Manager Baramulla, graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Ajaz Hassan, In-Charge, Indoor Stadium Handwara, Kupwara, was also present and appreciated the efforts of the organizing team for their commitment to promoting football and creating meaningful sporting opportunities for young athletes.
The organizers expressed sincere gratitude to the Jammu & Kashmir Sports Council for its continuous support in promoting sports and youth development across the Union Territory.
