Sports festival concluded with final matches of various games across the valley

At the culmination of the Police Commemoration Week of Police martyrs, Police have organised various events across the valley including Marathon in Budgam, Ganderbal & Awantipora, Quiz competition in Baramulla and final matches of various games in Srinagar and Handwara.
In Budgam, the run was flagged off by ASP Budgam Shri Gowhar Ahmed-JKPS besides other senior officers of Police were also present. More than 100 participants including students both boys & girls of different age groups participated in the event with keen enthusiasm. The Marathon started from Railway Station Budgam and culminated at Sports Stadium Budgam covering a distance of about 4 Kms. On the closing ceremony held at Sports Stadium Budgam, Chief Guest SSP Budgam Shri Tahir Saleem-JKPS flanked by DySP Hqrs, DySP DAR Budgam, DySP PC Budgam, SHO Police Station Budgam and other senior officers distributed cash rewards, mementos and certificates among the winners and participants of the event.
In boys category, Umar Farooq, Shakir Ahmed and Ishfaq Ashraf secured first three positions respectively. Similarly, in girls’ category, Sahiba Bilal, Zanaib Gulzar and Bisma Bilal secured first, second and third positions respectively. A cash reward of Rs 2500, Rs 2000 and Rs 1500 each along with mementos and certificates were awarded to the first three positions for both boys and girls category.
Similarly in Ganderbal, Police organized Marathon “Run for Unity” in which Students throughout district, officials of J&K Police and CAPF participated with zeal and zest. First three position holders were awarded with suitable cash rewards. The run was flagged off by SSP Ganderbal Shri Nikhil Borkar-IPS. ASP Ganderbal, DySP DAR Ganderbal and other senior officers of Police were also present on the occasion.
In Awantipora, SSP Awantipora Shri Mohd Yousif-JKPS flagged-off the run organized by Police wherein 50 youth of different age groups of different areas participated. The event started at 08:00 am from Noorpora village and culminated at Awantipora.
During the flag off ceremony, SSP Awantipora interacted with the participants and expressed that the event run for unity has been organised in the honour of police martyrs. During closing ceremony, SSP Awantipora distributed cash reward, certificates, medals among the first three winners of the event. Participation certificate were also distributed among all the participants.
In Baramulla, Police organized quiz competition on freedom struggle under Civic Action Programme at DPL Baramulla. Students from Police public school Baramulla, Boys high school Khwajabagh, DPS Delina, Boys Higher Secondary School Baramulla and Budding Bloom Experimental School Baramulla participated in the competition.
Police Public School secured the first position while Boys HSS Baramulla bagged second and DPS Delina secured third position in the competition. Cash prizes and mementos were distributed among the winners by the ASP Baramulla, DySP DAR Baramulla and DySP Hqrs Baramulla. Other Police officers were also present on the occasion. The quiz competition was hosted by the probationary DySP Dheeraj Kumar.
Moreover in Srinagar, Police under Civic Action Programme (CAP), organized a sports event at Kashmir Harvard Educational Institute, Habak Naseem Bagh Srinagar. SP Hazratbal Shri Irshad Hussain Rather inaugurated the event. SDPO Zakura,SDPO Zadibal,SHO Nigeen, SHO Zakura and SHO Lalbazar were also present on the occasion of the closing ceremony of the event.
04 Volleyball teams from Nigeen, Zakura, Soura and Lalbazar areas participated enthusiastically in the sports event. In the final match Nigeen team defeated Lalbazar to lift the title. Trophies and suitable rewards were distributed among the winners and runner-up teams.
In Handwara, final matches of Cricket, Volleyball & Kabadi were played on the culmination of the sports week. A total number of 16 teams participated in Cricket & Volleyball each and 08 teams in Kabadi. In cricket the final match was played between Handwara 11 and Dudipoda which was won by Handwara 11. The final match of Volleybal was played between Handwara Volleyball Club and Raja Brother Shogpora which was won by Handwara Volleyball Club and similarly the final match in Kabadi was played between Pohrupeth and Nutnusoo which was won by Pohrupeth. At the closing presentation, SP Handwara Shri Sandeep Gupta-IPS, ASP Handwara,DySP DAR Handwara felicitated captains of the winner and runner up teams with trophies and cash prizes.
Later, SP Handwara thanked the players, spectators and the people who witnessed the event and made the event successful.
Community members have lauded the role of Police for rendering such services to the general public, besides organising such events and hoped that Police will organise such events in future to channelize the energy of youth into positive manner that will help in nation building.
