Srinagar, June 25: Srinagar hosted the 8th National Conference on “Sahkar se Samriddhi — From Vision to Ground Reality”, focusing on translating India’s cooperative sector reforms into measurable grassroots impact.
Inaugurated under the vision of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and leadership of Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah, the conference reviewed progress in the cooperative sector and set priorities for the next phase of development.
Secretary, Ministry of Cooperation, Ashish Kumar Bhutani, said the creation of the Ministry marked a turning point for India’s cooperative movement, shifting it from regulation to a development-driven model aimed at rural prosperity and inclusive growth.
The conference highlighted major reforms such as computerisation of PACS, formation of new cooperatives, business diversification, and creation of national-level cooperative institutions. Emphasis was laid on strengthening Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) as the backbone of the system.
Key focus areas included digital transformation, adoption of modern technology in cooperative banks, data-driven governance through the National Cooperative Database 2.0, and expansion of infrastructure under the World’s Largest Grain Storage Plan.
National federations such as NABARD, NDDB, IFFCO, KRIBHCO, NAFED, NCCF and NCDC participated in discussions on financing, capacity building, and market support.
State and UT representatives shared best practices, regional challenges, and successful models, including cooperative development in the North East and diversification of PACS into multi-business entities.
The conference concluded with actionable targets for States and UTs over the next six months, aiming to accelerate implementation and strengthen India’s cooperative ecosystem.
