In a significant push toward youth empowerment and entrepreneurship, the District Administration Srinagar, in collaboration with the District Employment and Counseling Center, organized a vibrant one-day Potential Entrepreneurship Mela at the Kashmir Heart (Numaish Gah) Exhibition Ground on Friday.
Aimed at connecting young people with viable livelihood avenues and promoting a culture of self-reliance through entrepreneurship and skill development, the event witnessed enthusiastic participation from 290 youth, including budding entrepreneurs, Self-Help Group (SHG) members, and Mission Yuva associates.
The mela was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, who toured the exhibition stalls set up by various government departments implementing self-employment schemes. While interacting with participants, the DC encouraged them to explore the wide array of opportunities available under Mission Yuva and other government initiatives.
“This is more than an event—it is a platform to nurture Srinagar’s entrepreneurial spirit. Our commitment is to help young people transition from job seekers to job creators,” Dr. Bilal said.
Present on the occasion were Chief Planning Officer Srinagar Fayaz Ahmed Dar, Joint Director Employment Waseem Raja, Deputy Director Employment Dr. Sheeba Inayat, as well as officers from the Career Counselling and Employment wings.
Dr. Sheeba Inayat, in her address, highlighted a key milestone, stating that over 780 applications have been received under the Mission Yuva initiative in Srinagar, reflecting strong interest among the city’s youth. She added that 50 youth were registered on the spot at the mela through the Mission Yuva digital portal.
Officials including the Career Counselling Officer and Employment Officer were on hand to guide attendees, facilitate real-time registration, and provide insights into schemes ranging from startup support to skill-building programs.
Stalls were set up by departments including the State Business Development Unit (SBDU), Business Hub Division (BHD), and Yuva Doots, offering detailed brochures and one-on-one guidance on eligibility criteria, financial assistance, application processes, and contact points.
