Check highway status before embarking towards Jammu: Traffic Police
Vehicular traffic on the Srinagar-Jammu highway was open on Tuesday evening despite the prevailing inclement weather conditions.
A J&K Traffic Police official said the only surface link to Kashmir was through for a two-way traffic on Tuesday, even though incessant rains hit plains and snowfall was recorded in some higher reaches.
The traffic official said commuters should not plan their travel along the highway without confirming the status of the road from Traffic Control Units at Jammu, Srinagar and Ramban.
While rains lashed Jammu plains, the Srinagar office of the Meteorological Department on Tuesday issued an 'orange alert’ in Kashmir saying the prevalent rains and snowfall are expected to intensify in coming days.
“The weather will improve on Jan 9 forenoon onwards,” the official said.
In view of the impending bad weather, the MET office urged people not to venture out on avalanche and landslide prone areas, unless extremely necessary. “Keep power/light back up( in case of power failure),” the MET office said in the release while asking motorists to drive "very slowly and in low gear while driving on snow bound area.”
